Hack Your Happiness

We all get down sometimes but it’s important to avoid letting bad moments turn into bad days. Here are some of my favorite ways to bring a little extra happiness into my life.

Get Your Heart Rate Up

Something as simple as doing 10 jumping jacks or push-ups often gives me enough of a boost to put a smile on my face. If you have a little more time, consider going for a walk. Fresh air is an awesome pick-me-up. Check out my article on winter hiking for some tips on how to enjoy nature even when it’s chilly out.

Make Someone Else Happy

There are lots of way to do this. You can call an old friend, write a thank you card, or just smile at the next person you see. In fact, simply wishing that other people are happy can boost your own mood.

Eat Often

It’s easy to get a little irritable when we are calorie deficient. I keep granola bars handy to avoid crashing.

Power Nap

Laying down for 15-30 minutes will allow your body and mind to get a quick recharge without compromising your ability to fall asleep at your usual time. If you find yourself yawning, why not hold off on finishing that episode of The Office, and lay down for a few?Even if you are unable to fall asleep, relaxing your mind and body is hugely beneficial.

Meditate

Check out my last post about how and why you should meditate. Many of the world’s happiest and most successful people practice mindfulness on a consistent basis. Why not give it a try?
